The story of Pieve del Grappa
A young municipality, an ancient territory
Pieve del Grappa is one of the most recently established municipalities in Veneto, created in 2019 from the merger of Crespano del Grappa and Paderno del Grappa. Despite its recent administrative origin, the territory has an ancient history, linked for centuries to the presence of Monte Grappa and the communities living on its slopes.
Crespano del Grappa
Crespano del Grappa is the more populous of the centres that merged into the new municipality, with an urban layout retaining buildings and features linked to its history as a foothill town. It is the main reference point for services and daily life across the whole territory of Pieve del Grappa.
Paderno del Grappa
Paderno del Grappa, smaller in size than Crespano, has retained a more markedly rural character, with a compact settlement at the foot of the massif. Together with Crespano, it forms the second historical component of the municipality of Pieve del Grappa.
Monte Grappa and Cima Grappa
The municipal territory rises from the plain to the slopes and summit elevations of Monte Grappa, including Cima Grappa, the scene of some of the hardest fighting of the First World War on the Italian front. On the summit stands the military memorial that holds the remains of thousands of fallen soldiers, a destination for visitors and for remembrance for those who climb the massif.
