Mussolente is a municipality on the foothills of Monte Grappa, in the province of Vicenza, about five kilometres from Bassano del Grappa and roughly ten from Asolo. The municipal territory rises from the plain toward the first hills at the base of Monte Grappa, with a landscape alternating farmland, vineyards and woods. On the hill overlooking the town centre stands Villa Negri Piovene, an eighteenth-century complex commissioned by the Negri Miazzi family of Bassano and built by architect Antonio Gairdon, completed in 1764; a monumental staircase of 115 steps, flanked by laurel hedges, leads up to the villa, which offers a 360-degree view over the plain below. Mussolente's location, a short drive from Bassano del Grappa and Nove, historic centres of Venetian ceramics, makes it a natural stop for anyone exploring this artistic and craft area of the Vicenza province. The town retains a largely residential and agricultural character, with views over the Asolo hills.

The story

The story of Mussolente

Geography and territory

The municipality lies in the foothill belt that rises from the Vicenza plain toward Monte Grappa, between Bassano del Grappa and Asolo. Its territory includes both cultivated flatland and low hills, offering open views over the plain and the Pre-Alps.

Villa Negri Piovene

Mussolente's most important landmark is Villa Negri Piovene, a complex of buildings erected in the second half of the eighteenth century for the Negri Miazzi family of Bassano, designed by architect Antonio Gairdon and completed in 1764. The villa stands on a scenic hill at the centre of the town and offers a 360-degree view over the plain at the foot of Monte Grappa. A monumental staircase of 115 steps, flanked by laurel hedges, leads up to the building.

Between Bassano and Nove, land of ceramics

Mussolente lies a short distance from Bassano del Grappa and Nove, two of the best-known centres of Venetian ceramic tradition, where artisan workshops still produce hand-decorated ceramics. While not itself a ceramics-producing town, its location makes it a convenient base for visiting this part of the Vicenza area.

Agricultural and hill landscape

The countryside around Mussolente alternates vineyards, orchards and the field crops typical of the Venetian foothills, with small farms coexisting alongside residential development that has grown in recent decades thanks to the proximity of Bassano del Grappa.
