The story
The story of Marano Vicentino
Between Schio and Thiene, in the foothills
Marano Vicentino sits between the two historic industrial centres of Schio and Thiene, in an area of the province of Vicenza that developed an early manufacturing vocation from the nineteenth century onward, ahead of other parts of the region. The territory is flat but close to the first foothills of the Alps, with a continuous urban fabric reflecting twentieth-century industrial growth.
The textile and industrial legacy
Like much of the Alto Vicentino, Marano Vicentino went through a phase of industrial development initially tied to textiles, later diversifying toward mechanical engineering and small and medium-sized manufacturing businesses. This transformation has deeply marked the urban landscape, with craft and industrial warehouses coexisting alongside residential areas.
The Venetian villas of the area
Before industrialisation, Marano Vicentino's territory was part of the foothill countryside dotted with Venetian villas, residences built by noble Vicenza and Venetian families to manage local agricultural estates. Some of these historic houses still stand in the municipality, bearing witness to its farming past before the industrial turn.
A residential and productive town
Today Marano Vicentino is mainly a residential municipality tied to the Alto Vicentino employment area, with a population largely employed in local businesses or in the nearby centres of Schio and Thiene. Services and shops meet everyday needs rather than a tourist audience.
