The Monticano crosses the municipal territory with a gentle flow, typical of the spring-fed rivers of the Treviso plain, nourished by springs that emerge naturally from the ground. Its banks, largely undeveloped, host riverside vegetation and short stretches that can be walked or cycled, offering a close look at a simple yet well-preserved river landscape. Around the watercourse lie cultivated fields and small farms, in a setting where the river functions more as a working element of the fields than as a tourist destination in itself, though it still offers pleasant views for those moving slowly through the area.
A farming economy
The economy of Fontanelle is based largely on agriculture, with cereal, soy and vine crops occupying most of the municipal territory. The farms, often family-run, pass down cultivation practices that have adapted over time to market needs without radically altering the rural landscape of the area.
